Dating Effects Of
Single Parenting
For a single parent, bringing up kids
is a difficult job as the parent needs to juggle the
responsibilities of being both a father and mother. At this
juncture, looking for ways to develop a personal relationship with
another adult can sometimes be tricky for a single parent. Dating
affects not just the single parent but also the kids.
It is the kids who are going to be
affected first due to dating of a single parent. Kids might feel
abandoned or neglected. According to a research conducted by John
Hopkins University, children can easily get affected emotionally and
psychologically due to abrupt and unexpected changes in life such as
disruptions in family structure, going through the ordeals of
divorce, living with a single parent, moving to different cities and
changing schools. New dating partners for their divorced parents
could be just another blow to them. While these effects can have a
negative impact on certain kids, it can also have the opposite
effect on others. It all depends on how well single parents
coordinate their responsibilities towards the kids and their dating.
Single parents can assess the
reaction of the kids by keeping an open communication with them. It
is not proper to impose the decision on the kids. Children just look
for a secure attachment in a parent. They just do not accept to
share their parents love with anybody. Hence, it is responsibility
to let the kid understand that he is the most important person to
the parent. Parents can also seek the help of well-wishers, pastors,
counselors, friends, relatives and even neighbors in order to make
the child understand. |
